Overall
Organisation
The Institute
of Geodesy and Navigation at the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich
was founded in 1983 and is responsible for teaching and research in the fields
of Navigation, Signal Processing, Satellite Methods, Physical Geodesy (including
Gravimetry and Potential Theory), Geophysics and Geodynamics.
The Institute
is represented by Prof. Dr. Bernd Eissfeller, Full Professor
of Navigation and Dr. Torben Schüler who is the Scientific Head of the
Laboratory. Prof. Dr. Günter W. Hein, Full Professor of Physical
Geodesy and Satellite Geodesy, is now absent for sake of position as ESA Head
of Galileo Operations and Evolution.
The Institute
has an average staff of about full-time employed 20 scientists with a major
of them being funded by third-parties. Research associates are recruited
mainly from 5 different disciplines, i.e physics and electronics, aeronautical
engineering, computer science and geodesy, in order to come up with the optimal
solution for each task to be performed in the projects.
